A movie review: True Grit

I went to the cinema last Saturday to go see True Grit, a film by the Coen brothers. As it was a western, which is not my favourite genre, I was slightly sceptical, but I really enjoyed the film. The Coen brothers did not dissapoint. It wasn't as good as No country for old men, a previous Coen brother film, but very fun to watch! No country for old men, although brilliant, scared the bejesus out of me. I'm easily scared, and Javier Bardem was the creepiest dude I've ever seen on film, with that airgun, yikes. Wouldn't want to encounter him in a dark alley.

But back to True Grit. The film is about a 14-year old girl, Mattie Ross, whose father was murdered by a thieving coward. She wants to see the murderer put to justice, so she goes to the big city and hires US marshall Rooster Cogburn, who is supposedly the best man for the job. Cogburn doesn't care much for the girl wanting to travel with him into the Indian territory to find the man. Although the marshall is a drunk and smokes a lot and shoots without asking, the girl is confident he has 'true grit' and will succeed in taking down her father's murderer Tom Chaney. They are joined on their quest by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf(pronounced funnily in the film as LaBeef), who is also hunting for Chaney. Cogburn is played by Jeff Bridges, who is truly perfect for the role. His witty puns as the drunken, rambling Cogburn are brilliant. The Texas Ranger is played by Matt Damon (I didnt recognize him at first with that giant moustache), his role is not that big, but I think he does a great job playing a proud Ranger who constantly argues with Cogburn to show he is the better man for the job. The interactions between the two are really funny to watch. Very impressive was the girl who played Mattie Ross. She gives a very convincing performance and her acting is really great, which is not always the case for teenage actors. Mattie is portrayed as a stubborn girl, adamant on getting her beloved father the justice he deserves, and who is not easily scared. Her love for her horse does show she is still a young girl and this softens the role a bit.

It really is a great film for a nice night at the cinema. Even if western are not your favourite genre, this one is not just some gunslinging action film, it's funny, exciting, the atmosphere of it is just right and the acting performances are really good. If anyone has 'true grit', it's 'the dude' Jeff Bridges. I give the film an 8/10.
Definately worth seeing!

Amanda Knox case will last a "Lifetime"

I must admit, I can't remember the last time I watched Lifetime, but tonight, I will. Hayden Panettiere, who I have always had a genuine respect respect for, is playing Amanda Knox in a made for TV movie. Ironic that this movie is playing on Lifetime tonight at 9pm, because honestly, this case has lasted a lifetime.

For those who do not know about the Amanda Knox case, it dates back to November 1st, 2007, when English student, Meredith Kercher was brutally murdered in Perugia, Italy. At the time, 20-year-old Amanda Knox and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Raffaele Sollecito were convicted of the crime, but to this day, no one knows what really happened.

The Lifetime portrayal of the murder has stirred up a lot of controversy, and is under serious scrutiny, even facing lawsuits from the attorneys and families of those involved.

According to ETonline.com, "She was so amazingly shocked by [the trailer for the movie]," Knox's stepfather Chris Mellas recently told ABC News. "She said she literally started hyperventilating. She felt like she was going to throw up."

Ok relax with the dramatic reaction. What she should be hyperventilating about is whether she's going to get the lethal injection or not.

The only reason why I can see where this can pose a problem is the fact that some people may take a "made for TV movie" as factual. People may not realize that this film is made to get viewers and entertain, so all of the scenes are NOT factual.

However, the same idea goes for the critics, this is a MADE FOR TV movie, not a documentary.

In addition, this controversy is probably the best thing that could have happened to Lifetime, because any press is good press, and they are getting A LOT of it. Younger folks like me will be tuning in to see what all the hype is about. Even though they supposedly deleted the murder scene to comply with those who complained and saw it as disgraceful, I would still like to watch.

My parents

Because I'm so grateful to have such great parents I'd like to dedicate this post to them. Friends have always told me how lucky I am to have parents who are still so much in love, who never fight and who do so much for me. My parents' marriage is what everyone strives for, what I hope to have some day, but I know is hard to obtain and maintain. My parents are in their early fifties, married for 25 years and still give each other kisses, cuddle in the couch and I have never seen them in a real fight. Nagging sure :p but never an actual fight. My dad calls my mom from work every day while she's having lunch at home (she works close to home so eats lunch here), how sweet is that! And they did a great job raising me and my brother and giving us everything we need, we were even a little spoiled. I never had to pay for college, they paid for my little room in Gent (college city) and give me allowance to pay for food during the week. I know a lot of people are not that lucky. So thank you mom and dad, you're the best. This is for you.

Dad

(sorry for the weird scan, I can't figure it out) This is my dad. His name is Danny and he was born in 1956. So this is a really old photo. I love looking at all these old pictures in the albums, its like a window to the past. My dad was born when my grand-parents had already turned fourty, so my aunt and uncle are 8 and 10 years older than him. So all my cousins are a lot older than me. He had a little brother, one year younger than him (guess my grandma had a last-minute desire for more babies), but he died when he was around 3. His name was Redgy. He fell of something and hit his head, he seemed ok outwardly, just crying, so the doctor told my grandparents to put him to bed. When they came up to check an hour later he had died. Brain haemorrhage probably. Very sad, but nobody could have saved him.
My dad was a true 70's child, and loved disco music, flared jeans and insanely tight and rather short shirts. I find some pictures rather hilarious, resulting in him exclaiming: It was the fashion!!!

Here's some proof of disco-dad in the 70's.

My dad was in the army for a few years when he was in his twenties. He was pretty fit back in the day (now he has the typical older man belly :D) He often did the night shift, walking around in pitch dark around the grounds with his shepherd Tarzan (very original) who usually ran off to chase rabbits rather then guard.
Here's my dad all tough in his army outfit.

mom

This is my mom, 18 months old, in her stroller (I love these old strollers, I'd love to get a hold of one when one day I have a baby, fix it up a bit, would look pretty cool :) ) Her name is Christine and she was born in 1958. My maternal grandparents also had her when they had already turned 40. Which is very unfortunate for me and my brother; as all our cousins are a lot older than us. My youngest cousin is eleven years older. Mom was an accident, but still welcome. Although my grandmother was worried that her oldest son (18 at the time) would get married while she was still pregnant as that would be very awkward for her in the church! Luckily he waited another two years.

This is my mom wearing her confirmation outfit. In those days girls were still dressed all bride-like for that. In my day, it was just a fancy cute outfit from the boutique.

My mom was not at all a child of the disco era like my dad, my mom got stuck in the 60's and ignored the disco music and kept being a hippie (minus the drugs and free love). She listened to rock music, was completely crazy about David Bowie, didn't care about the latest fashion and was usually found in her favourite bar with her hippie long-haired friends. She sure was something! Didn't fit in with her Abba and so on loving classmates, and preferred listening to records most of the time.
This is my mom at 25. My dad loved this photo (probably because of the short skirt and lack of bra :p) and it was up enlarged in my parents room for quite a few years. I always liked it too. Weird to think I'm nearly that age now too! Time does fly. Notice the perm, everyone had it in those days. Bet quite a few of your mothers had a hairstyle like that in the 80's and 90's!

In spite of the big personality differences, my parents are clearly a great match. Maybe opposites do attract. They met when my mom was 24, and they moved in with each other two short months later. My mom really wanted to move out of her parents' house :p. They got married two years later.

And two years after that, there was me! A mix of both :) although perhaps a little bit more like my mom!

Dubbing or subtitling

Watching films just at home or going to the cinema has always been one of my favourite things to do. Luckily, I have parents who love going to the cinema, so I had my first cinema experience when I was about four years old. I saw my first real-person film at 6, it was Mrs. Doubtfire and I thought it was hilarious(who doesn't! gotta love the part with the social worker where he kept changing back and forth from man to woman, and dropped his mask on the street, ah the memories). AND it was subtitled.

In Belgium we always subtitle and not dubb, unless it's a movie for kids. I think this is far better then the horrors of dubbing in European countries as France and Germany, they ALWAYS dubb. Who wants to hear Johnny Depp with a weird French or German voice, it's dreadful. A voice is such an important part of being a good actor or actress, changing a famous actor's voice to some random person's voice just ruins the experience. Not that everyone here speaks fluent English or something. I had the luck of having a mom who's not very fond of Flemish series, so we always watched series or films that were English-spoken. Because of this I learned English very quickly and it has always been my favourite language, and my goal was to learn to speak it fluently. Which I hope I have now mastered :D

Subtitling is really no big deal. I sometimes read comments on sites like IMDB by people stating I did not go to the movies to read! I don't get that, does it take that much energy? And is it not better to be familiar with different languages, and not always hear your own. Also, for kids it's a great way to learn to read faster. Of course for really little ones, dubbing is good, so they can understand what's going on, but once you can read there is no need for it. I always enjoy watching foreign films in other languages, like Spanish or Chinese. Having to read the subtitles does not make the film experience any less.

One of my favourite films, Pan's labyrinth, is in Spanish and I can't imagine it being dubbed to English for example. It's set in Spain during the Spanish civil war, and hearing the actors speaking Spanish just sets the atmosphere of the film just right. You should really see this film if you haven't yet. It's really amazing, recognized as one of the 100 best films ever made. It is a mix of the brutality and horror of the civil war and the imagination of a little girl who sees fantasy come to life. Guillermo Del Torro is the director, he's brilliant. A lot of people apparantly made the mistake of taking their kids to it, because it has a fantasy element, but it's really gruesome sometimes, torture scenes etc., so don't think your kids, you'll traumatise them :D Amazing film, great acting, one to watch several times.

My parents did take me to the Thin Red Line when I was about 9, my brother was 6!, and we survived, although the severed body shots were slightly shocking :p. I know in the US you probably can't get in those films because of the R-rated thing, we have it too, but you can get in if a parent takes you. I wasn't that scared to be honest, so maybe we're being too overprotective.

My favourite film, as fantasy geek, is of course Lord of the rings. Best fantasy film every made! It was so impressive to see it in the cinema, beautiful rendition of the book, absolutely perfect! I've watched it many times naturally.

I also like dramas, although I'm a crybaby during emotional scenes, but I like seeing something that moves me and makes me think. Saddest film I ever saw was Dancer in the dark, a musical with Bjork, everyone I know who watched it cried, even guys confessed getting teary-eyed. Beautiful alternative film, but heart-breaking.

I also really liked The lovely bones, also by Peter Jackson, very undeserving of the harsh reviews in the US I thought. It was beautifully rendered, but really sad too, as it's about a 13 year old girl in sorta the inbetween place before heaven, talking about her murder and the aftermath for her family. Quite scary for parents to watch, my cousin who has a little girl, was very emotional about it. It's also a rendition of a book. The book I haven't read but I heard it's even more awful, as the attack, rape and murder are brutally described there, the film doesn't show anything. You just know she gets murdered, that's all. It's for the best, Peter Jackson said it's horrible enough for a girl to be murdered and nobody needs or would want to see the actual event. Good call.

I don't like romantic comedies, they are so predictable and insanely corny. One I did enjoy was How to lose a guy in ten days, I laughed my ass off. Very funny, nothing amazing, but makes for a nice evening in front of the telly. My favourite romantic film is Moulin Rouge, I do like me a musical!, and the songs are so catchy and beautiful, and I love the story and the sad ending. Great film, right up my alley!

What I also enjoy is a nice British costume film! Like Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Wuthering Heights, Sense and Sensibility, Jane Eyre.. It's not for everyone, but I enjoy it very much. A great recent one is THe Duchess with Keira Knightley, amazing costume film, great story, really a must-watch for anyone who likes these kind of films. The young Victoria is great too!

I've seen quite a few films to be honest! So if you need any pointers feel free to ask :D unless you love films as American Pie or Scary Movie, then go away, you have horrible taste in films :p

Bieber misses out on the Grammy AND the top spot at the Box Office

Ok so I still have not seen this movie, and I really need to. As soon as I have a few free hours, I will. However, I am pretty surprised at the weekend box office numbers. "Justin Bieber lost out at the Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Pop Album, and he also came in a close second at the box office this weekend. His new concert documentary, "Never Say Never," earned $30.2 million, just below Adam Sandler's Just Go With It, which earned $30.5 million" according to Yahoo Movies. Also, as another surprise, his documentary failed to beat out Miley Cyrus' "Hannah Montana: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour." From what I have READ, his documentary has substance. Zorianna Kit of the Huffington Post says
"Pop star Justin Bieber's 3D documentary Never Say Never should satisfy any die-hard Bieber fan. At the same time, those dragged to come along will not only enjoy themselves, but actually come to appreciate the 16-year old singer and even root for him." New York Magazine says, "This sensationally engineered promo film makes Justin Bieber look like a true force of nature." However, the negative reviews are plentiful, and this film clearly attracts a narrow demographic. However, I truly thought this movie would blow out the box office. Let's see how it does in its second week.

Furthermore, when it comes to the Grammy, THAT I can understand. Justin Bieber is obviously the most POPULAR new artist, but that does not mean he is the best. Esperanza obviously portrays the more artistic side of music, whereas the Biebs is a teen heart throb of the 21st century. Kudos to the Grammy's for punking the world, though. Esperanza is now the superstar that nobody knows about!

Good for nothin' Charlie Sheen may be good for somethin'

It's not all bad news for cast and crew of Two and a Half Men. TMZ is reporting that the 45-year-old actor would be willing to cover one-third of the salaries if CBS and Warner Bros. TV would pay the rest.

Seeing as their better "Half", Angus Jones, 16, makes $250,000 an episode, he will be putting forth a lot of hooker money-- I mean.... money.

Irreconcilable Differences result in splitsville for Simpson-Wentz

I kind of liked this couple.. They were different and edgy, I actually thought they had longevity. After filing for divorce, Ashlee is even trying to get custody of their two-year-old son, Bronx. Apparently, Simpson couldn't deal with his "erratic" behavior. They may be getting divorced now, but who's to say when they really seperated. I doubt this just happened out of nowhere. Celebrities have their ways to keep issues mum for long periods of time.

However, Lindsay Lohan is a different story. No more keeping mum about her sporadic behavior. What's the next crime? Murder? When the judge released her on a 40,000 dollar bail, she said, "Don't push your luck." WHAT LUCK? How about stop being a psycho screw up and go to church or something.

It's a dog's life

Ah Monday already, damn you Father Time! Five more loooong days of work till it's weekend again. Being a working girl is hard! You really take how easy school-life is for granted until you realise how hard it is to have to work five days a week every week. Goodbye long holidays, goodbye skipping boring lectures and going to the pub in the afternoon, goodbye for good! Sure the money is a big plus, but well I do miss having so many holidays and being around friend all the time. College and school really are the best periods in your life probably, there's just so little to worry about. And you're young, and can dream big and you still feel like it can all come true. Not that I'm old or something, 23 is still pretty good, but a lot of people are starting to settle down, in a relationship, moving in together..that sort of thing. Some friends are even married already! Now marriage, although part of my plan for the future, is still a bit too soon for me. I'd like to be in a relationship for a year or two before getting hitched :) with the current divorce rate, I'd like some foundation before taking the plunge. What would be nice is the first step, real relationship and the possibility of living together in the not so distant future. Love is pretty nice to have in your life, makes it more complete. And well I'd like to get out of my parents' house at some point! and less commuting! now that would be a blessing, not to mention the shared rent and other living costs and having someone to come home to and be there for you. Yup that would be a nice first step. But I guess I'll have to wait and see if it happens for me.

If not I guess I could always become the crazy dog-lady. Yup I'm a dogperson. I do like cats too, they're all graceful and adorable, and I love to watch them get themselves into trouble. But I've had dogs all my life and well I feel dogs give you more love, like they'd do anything to get some attention from you. Cats are more the other way around. "Here I am, aren't you glad, now feed me!"
The dogs of the house are currently Annabelle (nicknamed Belly) and Fiona.

This is Belly. She's 12 years old and a scruffy mix of a Fox and a Shnauzer (supposedly, her parents may have been mixed too, as she turned out a bit funny looking :p) She isn't the prettiest dog ever, but she's a real funny and loving dog. We got her when I was 11 years old, so I have a lot of great growing up memories with her. I have lots of funny memories about Belly, and I will never forget. She's a great dog, and I hope she will be around a few more years, mixed breeds are strong and she's healthy except for some artritis. I'd be devastated to lose her, cause she really is one of a kind. Belly is very fond of my dad especially, mostly because he walks her the most :D, she's always extatic when my dad comes home, it's like she hasn't seen him in weeks, whining and crying and jumping.
Some great memories of Belly growing up are:

- One her first day home she slept in my room. She decided to poo right in front of the door. And yes, horror of horrors, the door turns inwards -_-#. Very very gross. I also threw the poo in the bin in the bathroom instead of the toilet, but it was the middle of the night and I was 11, so shh!

- She chewed and destroyed my Leonardi Dicaprio standing poster also in those first nights, sniff, poor Leo

- She ate a whole bowl of olives that was on the coffee table for guests coming

- She had a poo in the couch, and the carpet, when not toilet trained yet.. I must say it was funny to watch mom cleaning it whilst mumbling swear words :D

- she ate a pie that was cooling down in the garage on a closet. She ate half of it, standing on her hind legs against the closet, probably poking her tongue out as far as she could to eat as much as possible from it. When mom went into the garage, she was hiding under the car, tail between legs, looking all guilty, face full of pie. I was so angry to not get to eat pie :p

- We were walking her in a field, off the leash, when she stumbled into a ditch :D Was so funny to see her hopping in the long grass like a kangaroo, and then suddenly freaking out near the sudden edge of the ditch and falling in, poor puppy hihi. Luckily we got her out ok.

- She opened a low cupboard with her nose, found the half kilo of chocolate we got for eater and proceeded to eat all of it. Needless to say she barfed all over the place and didn't eat a thing the next day. Good thing she was ok, chocolate is really bad for dogs, they aren't supposed to eat it.

- She hates baths. When you get out the tub she runs under the table and hides, you should see her sad sad look when all wet in the tub, so funny.

That's just some of the fond memories. Love you little messy Belly!

This is Fiona, our greyhound. She's 8 years old. We got her when she was three from a greyhound rescue foundation. She is originally from Ireland, but in Ireland when the dogs aren't great runners, they are shipped off to some foreign country where the dogs are usually treated with nothing but cruelty. Fiona was sent to Spain. Back then her racing name was 'A day out'. Luckily the racing tracks in Spain are now closed, but the spanish greyhounds, called galgos, are still treated appalingly. I read all about the conditions dogs like Fiona were and still are living in in Spain, and me and mom just had to adopt one as well and help out. The greyhounds are given nothing but mushy bread to eat, totally ruining their teeth, are kept in steel cages on top of each other, living in their own filth. The dogs are often trained by tying them to a car and driving. My own dog experienced this, and now she has a heart doubled in size because of this insane training. The dogs are also abused by the owners. Animal rescue is hardly present in Spain, and many people have little respect for them. Just take the horrible bull fights as another example, just plain torture to me. Even more horrible is when they notice the dogs aren't good enough runners, or hunters (galgos are usually used for those kind of things) they kill them in the most horrible ways. Shooting, burning, staking, hanging them so their paws can just reach the ground, making them suffer for hours. For shame, how can the government not intervene in this. I'm so happy I rescued sweet Fiona. Greyhounds are lovely dogs, the laziest ever, they love to sleep all day long, preferable with paws high up in the air. Never I've seen a dog enjoying naptime so much. They do like a good run, but only once or twice a day, for the rest sleeping is their favourite past-time. They almost never bark and are the dogs least likely to ever bite. They are very sensitive though, harsh training isn't for them, they like doing their own thing, bit like a cat really :) Poor Fiona is terrified of loud noises and goes all shakey when she hears it. Now that a few years have passed she's doing great, not skinny like crazy anymore and less zombie-like. And they're so very soft dogs, fun to pet! Another advantage of greyhounds is that they smell nice, they don't have the dog odour, very handy that. They are very calm too, which might make them seem less attached, but they do like getting cuddles and being pampered. Fiona loves to be covered by blankie, she gives a great big sigh then :) cutie. It's definately a unique dog breed, great for people who want a less overactive jumpy around dog who is happy with one or two walks a day and doesn't bark or smell. Well that's the story of my pets :) Here's some more cute pics for you to aww over, just click for a larger view. Aren't they the cutest!

Lindsay Lohan aka Winona Ryder

Oh Lindsay, you really have to do something about those sticky fingers. Is she really trying to improve her image?

Maybe this is her way of maintaining publicity because no one will hire her. How can you hire someone that can potentially be in jail for the next three years?

We already know about her alcohol and drug problem, which seems to be a given in young Hollywood, but a thief? That's a whole different world. To me, that brings trashy to a new level. Even to this day when I see Winona Ryder in a film, I automatically associate her with the stealing spree she had years back. Once a thief, always a theif.

She claims she borrowed the necklace, and her stylist forgot to give it back. She is already facing charges for assaulting someone at the Betty Ford Clinic!!!! However, the jewelry store sent surveillance footage that shows Lohan in the store on the day that necklace was stolen. Then pictures were taken of her wearing the necklace, after it went missing.

Coincidence?

I hate to be negative, but I will take an educated guess and say SYANARA LILO!!!!!!!!!

An arrest gives her automatic jail time. When you're on probation, and get arrested, that's violating probation.

However, this could be an incident like when she mistakenly borrowed pants that had cocaine in the pockets, which she had no idea about. That was just coincidence, right? Good luck, Lindsey. Maybe your sister's promising career can help fund your recklessness. Oh wait.................... did I say promising?

Train people

Ok I’m back with a less sad post! As I once mentioned I have a very long commute by train every working day. Two hours to get here and two hours back, so four every day! Sometimes I do stay over at my sort of boyfriend ‘s place, which is only half the distance, so that helps break up the week and makes me a lot less tired in the weekend! But sometimes I do have five days in a row of four hours daily on train, which is pretty hellish. By the time I get home I only have two hours to relax before going to bed, which is the worst about the commute really. Numb sitting area is also a downside, but that’s bearable :D Helpful is my pink netbook, filled with films and series, it really makes time go faster. Now, during all these long traintrips I encounter a lot of people. Some people are really a pain in the arse, making your already annoying journey even more annoying. I decided to categorize them ! Most I have encountered many times, but some pain in the arses are really one of a kind.

The loud headphone/earphone type

I’m sure everyone knows this type! Sitting on public transport and having to listen to the usually obnoxious music of someone who is clearly deaf. If you can hear the song several seats away your music is on too loud! People with earphones who do that are really mad, no wonder so many people have tinutis. Have fun hearing peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep for the rest of your life, idiot.

The who needs headphones type

Possibly worse then the previous one. This person will just listen to music or watch videos without putting on headphones. That way we can all enjoy the usually very soothing music or interesting video you are listening/watching. ..(sarcastic in case you didn’t notice) Really, can you really be that annoying? Are the dozens of evil glares not a hint?

The loud talker type

You can encounter this type anywhere you go, unfortunately almost always women (except on phones, a lot of men also my dad seem to think they need to yell through a phone). Clearly these people have hearing problems and have no idea how loud they are actually talking. I do not care about who is dating who and who you fancy.

The talkative type

Often an old lady, but not always. Not always that annoying, if it’s just an anecdote, but I once had an old lady telling me her entire life on the train, which was a bit awkward. It is however not as annoying as scary not very sane looking man talking to you about weird subjects. I try to just smile and nod when that happens and get out of there as soon as possible.

The possessive paper reader type

Encountered this type just the other day on the train! This lady was reading a paper and as I was not doing anything to entertain myself my eyes wandered to her paper and I couldn’t help but read. A normal person wouldn’t be bothered by this, I was only glancing at the paper, and well I was bored. This lady proceeded in doing various actions to try and prevent me from reading the paper. She sat sideways and turned the paper her way. I glanced at the front page. She lifted up the paper till just under her head, so I couldn’t read along again. Now really, it’s a paper, why so possessive or anti-social, lady! I don’t care if someone stares at my laptop screen when I’m watching something, or reading along a magazine. I’d even lower the magazine so they can read as well just to be nice!

The eager sitter type

Now this person is really annoying. When a train is really not busy and there’s nobody sitting next to me, I’ll just put my bag or purse on the seat next to me, so I can get things out easier. Now this type, when wanting to sit down on that seat, will not even bother asking you to please put down the bag, which I will happily do. I’d do it before asking, but sometimes I’m busy reading or watching and I don’t see them. So instead of asking, this person will just proceed to sit down, on your bag! Squishing all your stuff with their big behind. When you look at them weirdly and say excuse me, you’re sitting on my bag, they’ll just stare at you quizzically as if they did nothing wrong.

The unique ones

The snorer

Also encountered this one a few days ago. I was nearly in Brussels when I suddenly heard the very distinct noise of a very loud rumbly snorer. You should’ve seen everybody’s faces when they heard someone snoring like that. Everyone was shocked and looking around who was the snorer :p It’s a really annoying sound, but I guess he couldn’t really help it, it’s better on the train then in the bed next to you.

The open mouth chewer

This one was really gross. Was sitting opposite this man while he was eating an apple. He was chewing with mouth open, so you could see the whole chewing process going on, and on top of that he was making the annoying smacking noise along with it. When finishing the apple he took some chewing gum. And he chewed it the exact same way as the apple. It was like watching a cow, you couldn’t see what on earth he was chewing on for so long and he kept making the noise, was like watching a mental person. Try sitting in front of that for half an hour, really annoying!

So that’s my list so far! More to come probably. Have you met any annoying people on public transport? Let me know!

"Fighting" to Transform

The Fighter
The transformations of the actors themselves are noteworthy. When I saw Melissa Leo on Oprah, I didn't believe it was the same woman that played Alice Ward in The Fighter. Oprah said that when she saw the film, she was asking herself, "Where did they find this woman?" I was thinking the SAME THING! Did they just go to a trailor park and just happen to find someone that is an incredible actress? However, you can see that she was transformed from a classy beautiful woman into a rough, washed out chain smoker who "managed" her son's career.

Christian Bale: We are used to seeing his drastic transformations. Most recently in The Machinist where he lost 63 pounds, only to bulk up for his role in Batman. However, the thinning hair, sunken in eyes and gray skin all contribute to his drug addicted, intense but motivated character as Dickey in The Fighter.

The oscar nominations for both Christian Bale and Melissa Leo are no surprise. There are so many good supporting actor/actress nominees that I would be happy with whoever wins. Jeremy Renner (The Town) and Amy Adams are two other examples that were incredible.
